OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) is inviting applications for a home-based individual consultant to develop a new online teacher training course on greening education in the English language. This course aims to support the implementation of the ongoing project on teacher capacity building on ICT competencies.

Under the supervision of the Chief of the Unit of Teacher Professional Development and Networking, the Individual Consultant will design and develop an online training course for primary and secondary school teachers. This course will equip them with effective resources to impart green skills to students. Moreover, integrating ICT support in the development of green education skills can greatly enhance the training experience. Interactive learning platforms, access to open resources, and collaborative efforts among educators can be facilitated through this approach.

Specifically, the consultant will also support the implementation of the Unit’s project titled "Teacher Capacity Building with AI and Digital Technologies: E-library for Teachers."

Long Description

In particular, the Individual Consultant shall:

1.    Design and develop a teacher training course focused on cultivating green and sustainable skills in primary and secondary school educators using ICT and digital teaching solutions. The duration of the course is 36 academic hours. The syllabi shall provide descriptive information on the learning modules, academic workload, training methods, and specification of formative and summative assessment. Submit the preliminary programme of the course to UNESCO IITE by June 28, 2024.
2.    After UNESCO IITE approves the preliminary program, develop a comprehensive teacher training course that includes textual materials, tutorials, visuals, both formative and summative assessments focused on specific themes, and the template for the Certificate of Attendance and Certificate of Completion. Produce multimedia learning materials such as videos and presentations with audio feedback to accompany the tutorials, in addition to text-based resources. Prepare interim assessments following each course module. Submit all course materials to UNESCO IITE by September 15, 2024.
3.    Upon approval of all the abovementioned materials by UNESCO IITE, share all the course materials in high quality for the uploading onto the E-library for teachers’ platform. Once the course tutorials and learning resources are uploaded onto the platform, arrange at least two workshops and two trial runs of the course to check the educational effectiveness of the course materials by November 1, 2024. Additionally, organize a webinar featuring field experts delivering keynote speeches followed by a panel discussion on topics related to the course theme. Submit presentation files, concept notes, and video recordings of the workshops and webinar, along with the list of participating field experts and course trainees, and feedback of the workshops in the form of a 5-page written report before November 20, 2024. Make the required changes to the course based on the obtained feedback by December 2, 2024.
4.    Following the official launch of the new online course, provide sufficient outreach support to gain visibility and get the target audience involved in the training, specifically publish the corresponding news item (invitation to enroll in the course) at the organization’s website and disseminate information on the training course among the networks. Share this information with at least 20 global teacher networks and teacher training institutions. Submit the proof of invitations to UNESCO IITE by November 20, 2024.
5.    Prepare a summary report on the work performed, including specification of the conducted activities and obligations, expert observations, highlights and lessons learned, and comprehensive recommendations. Submit the report to UNESCO IITE before December 2, 2024.
