OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Background
Since 2014, UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) has developed a comprehensive Water and Gender Component. With the goal of advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women in water, WWAP´s main areas of water and gender expertise include methodological approaches and evidence-based technical backstopping; wide-scale advocacy actions; capacity development, and on-the-ground project support. WWAP’s Water and Gender activities target government leaders and decision-makers, water practitioners, academia, and the general audience.
WWAP strengthens the policy-science interface and supports decision-making on water through targeted capacity reinforcement and knowledge sharing initiatives. Trainings focus on water and gender, and on the themes of the World Water Development Reports. The courses aim to strengthen the scientific, technical and policy capacities of the participants, and to facilitate decision making in managing water resources sustainably.
The job
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Water and Gender Programme Specialist, the Consultant will provide support to the WWAP Water and Gender, and capacity development activities in the following tasks:
- Assist the implementation of the water and gender project portfolio. Tasks include:
- Track planning and execution of water and gender project workplans, schedules and reporting; maintain water and gender project data, information and monitoring organized in a dedicated database.
- Assist with the preparation of technical project reports, proposals and other relevant project documents.
- Assist in the preparation and organizational tasks of training activities. Tasks may include:
- Preparation/revision of training materials
- Support in training logistics
- May include support in delivery of technical trainings
- Assist in the preparation, management and analysis of data produced in the water and gender projects and WWAP capacity development activities, including (and not limited to):
- Data systematization and analysis for publications
- Mentoring of trainees in data analysis if required
- Assessment of project and training impact
Assist in preparation of briefs, PPTs, scripts, and communication materials, as required.
COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- University degree + relevant experience; advanced degree in related field (MSc) as an asset
- Natural sciences and/or including water studies; Economics, or related fields
- Preferred degree/specialization in project management, data management with focus on NRM, IWRM, or similar
- Familiar with data and database management
- 3+ years of working experience in project planning, management, evaluation in projects related to NRM, water, agriculture, quantitative research methods
- Experience with water and gender topics as an asset
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Proficient in English language
- French language as an asset
