OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

In line with UNESCO’s Program and Budget for 2024-2025 (42 C/5), Major Programme II: Natural and Exact Sciences, the consultant will work under the general authority of the Assistant Director-General and the direct supervision of the Head of the Knowledge Management and Information Unit (EO/IKM). In collaboration with the Coordinator of the UNESCO Green Citizens initiative, the consultant will focus on the development and execution of the digital communication strategy for both the UNESCO Green Citizens initiative and the Science Programs. This will include efforts to raise awareness, foster engagement, and support sustainability initiatives across relevant social media platforms. The consultant will be responsible for:

 

1. Digital Communication Strategy for the Green Citizens initiative

  • Develop and implement digital communication strategies to increase the visibility and notoriety of the Green Citizens initiative, with a strong focus on engaging youth and local communities.
  • Create content for social media platforms in both French and English, ensuring the content resonates with diverse audiences, including youth and the general public.
  • Draft key messages for the website (web article that highlight the projects owners, pathfinders, influencers and the core principles of the UNESCO Green Citizens initiative). Engage with online communities, influencers, and relevant partners to raise awareness about UNESCO Green Citizens.

Long Description

  • Newsletter: Elaborate the content of the newsletter based on the proposals and feedback from the editorial committee, highlighting key updates, initiatives, and success stories from UNESCO Green Citizens.
  • WhatsApp and LinkedIn Groups: Facilitate real-time communication and foster community engagement through dedicated WhatsApp and LinkedIn groups, connecting UNESCO Green Citizens and sustainability advocates worldwide.
  • Collaborate with the graphic designer to produce compelling strategic visuals, infographics, and videos that align with the campaign’s goals and engage target audiences effectively.
  • Track and analyze the performance of digital actions, assessing their impact and ensuring they remain aligned with UNESCO’s core values, goals, and Science communication objectives.

 

2. Develop Digital Content for Science Programs

  • Produce and manage digital content for science-related initiatives under UNESCO’s Natural Sciences programs, particularly those focused on biodiversity, climate change, and sustainability.
  • Develop engaging content for the UNESCO Green Citizens website and social media platforms, including articles, blog posts, and infographics.

Long Description

  • Create digital tools and materials, such as templates, videos, and interactive web content, to support the dissemination of scientific knowledge and UNESCO Science produced ressources.
  • Coordinate with UNESCO experts to gather relevant content and data to share across platforms and engage international audiences.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure that digital resources are user-friendly, interactive, and multilingual.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Master's degree in communication, digital media, digital marketing or a related field.

 

Work Experience

  • At least 4 years of professional experience in digital communication and content creation, with at least 2 years in an international organization

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms (social media, web, etc.).
  • Excellent ability to create compelling written for diverse audiences.
  • Experience with digital campaigns targeting youth and local communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and international environment.
  • Familiarity with the UN system and its communication guidelines is a plus.

 

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English or French and very good knowledge of the other language, preferably Spanish.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of UNESCO’s Green Citizens Initiative and its role in sustainability would be an asset.
  • Experience with digital communication in the environmental sectors
