OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
In line with UNESCO’s Program and Budget for 2024-2025 (42 C/5), Major Programme II: Natural and Exact Sciences, the consultant will work under the general authority of the Assistant Director-General and the direct supervision of the Head of the Knowledge Management and Information Unit (EO/IKM). In collaboration with the Coordinator of the UNESCO Green Citizens initiative and the Digital Communication Consultant, the consultant will focus on the creation of digital content for the UNESCO Green Citizens initiative and the Science Programs. The consultant will be responsible for creating engaging digital content (posts, videos, stories, infographics etc) across various social media platforms to raise awareness, foster engagement and promote activities and impact targetting both the general audience and specialized scientific groups.
The consultant will be responsible for:
Content creation for the UNESCO Green Citizens initiative
- Develop and design posts, videos, and other multimedia content for social media platforms in French, English and Sapnish, ensuring they align with the UNESCO Green Citizens’s objectives.
Long Description
- Produce content that resonates with youth, local communities, and a wide range of audiences, focusing on environmental sustainability and community engagement.
- Assist in drafting key messages for the website and social media channels, including success stories, key updates, and information related to the Green Citizens Campaign and sustainability efforts.
- Collaborate with the Coordinator and Communication Consultant to ensure that the content meets the initiative's needs and goals.
- Create visually compelling graphics, infographics, and videos that highlight the key elements of the UNESCO Green Citizens initiative, including project owners, sustainability initiatives, and community-based actions.
- Regularly update content across all digital platforms and social media channels, ensuring consistency and alignment with the campaign’s messaging.
Long Description
Video Production and Graphic Design
- Produce and edit videos for the UNESCO Green Citizens initiative ensuring they are engaging, informative, and aligned with the objectives.
- Develop infographics and visuals that simplify complex sustainability concepts, making them accessible and engaging for the target audience.
- Work closely with the team to align the design and video content with the overall campaign strategy and visual identity.
Collaborate with Stakeholders and Team Members
- Participate in creative brainstorming sessions with the UNESCO social media team and provide ideas for new content formats and strategies to increase engagement.
Long Description
- Work with the editorial committee to design the newsletter, ensuring the design and content align with campaign goals.
- Coordinate with the project owners consultant to gather necessary content for campaign materials.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Assist in tracking the performance of content on social media platforms and analyze metrics to assess the effectiveness of digital campaigns.
- Adjust content strategy based on performance data to optimize reach and engagement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Master's degree in communication, graphic design, or a related field.
Work Experience
- At least 4 years of professional experience in content creation, graphic design, video production, or similar roles in a sustainability or environmental context.
- Experience with social media platforms, creating engaging posts and multimedia content.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in content creation tools (Adobe Suite, Canva, video editing tools, etc.).
- Experience in creating engaging multimedia content (posts, infographics, stories, videos, etc) with a focus on sustainability and environmental themes.
- Strong visual communication skills, with passion for design and storytelling.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Languages
- Excellent knowledge of English or French and very good knowledge os Spanish.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge in sustainability, environmental science, or community-based environmental projects.
- Previous experience working on social media campaigns for global initiatives or NGOs.
- Familiarity with UNESCO’s Green Citizens initiative or similar sustainability initiatives is a plus.
Language
Knowledge of the Spanish language
