OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Provide support to implement activities particularly related to e-learning, open sciences and science communication within the thematic areas of Climate Change, Water Resources, Water-Related Disasters, Adaptation, and Capacity Development in accordance with UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) programme Water-Related Disaster and Hydrological Change (Theme 1) and Addressing Water Scarcity (Theme 3) of the approved 40C/5 work plan.

To support IHP work on launching e-learning, open sciences, distance learning for water resources in the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has brought havoc on the planet. The internship will be teleworking but considered as full time and reporting to Water Sciences Division.

Long Description

TASKS

• Provide support and assistance to implement e-learning, open sciences and distance learning activities a focus on science communication related to thematic areas; climate change, water resources, water scarcity, water-related disasters and adaptation strategies organized by HSS;

• Prepare list of participants, and provide logistical support and assist to prepare web-based meetings and workshop organized by HSS sessions

• Prepare e-brochures and web-based dissemination materials;

• Support to prepare communication material of the planned events;

• Provide support to IHP and Water Science Division related task as required.

Long Description

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• The intern will learn about the mandate and activities of the International Intergovernmental Scientific Programme –International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO

• Through involvement in different IHP activities, the intern will learn IHP’s core pillars of implementation IHP VIII (2014-2021) ‘Water Security: Responses to Local, Regional and Global Challenges’

• The intern will have exposures to IHP e-learning, open science and distance learning activities focusing on developing tools, data and methodologies to address climate change impacts on Water Resources.

• The intern will learn dissemination of scientific information through UNESCO water networks such as centers and Chairs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Enrolled in an undergraduate programme in a Science related field or in Development studies

Language:

English/French.
