Initial duration of the contract is for 1 year, with possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

 

The Unit for Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Education is responsible for supporting Member States’ efforts to develop and implement ICT in education policies and programmes, particularly in teacher training, open educational resources (OER), AI in education, and mobile learning, to leverage digital innovations to achieve Education 2030.

Technology innovation and AI in education is one of the thematic priorities of the Education Sector under the 39C/5 Programme and Budget 2018-2021 as well as the 37C/4 Medium Term Strategy 2014-2021.  The ICT in education activities contribute to the achievement of four Expected Results through the development of ICT in Education policies, leverage technology-enabled innovation in education with a focus on AI in education, reinforcement of teachers’ digital skills and competences, and promotion of Open Educational Resources.

 

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General Education, the direct supervision of the Chief of Unit for Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Education in the Future of Learning and Innovation Team (ED/FLI/ICT), and within the implementation framework of the Huawei Funds-in-Trust project on Technology-enabled Open Schools for All, the incumbent will in particular: 

 

  • Assist in the administration, management and overall coordination of the project;
  • Assist in managing and coordinating the cross-country activities; 
  • Assist in conducting research, development of training programmes, and drafting of technical reports that needed by the project;
  • Provide HQ, field offices, and project countries with daily administrative back-stopping; 
  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of the project to ensure timely periodic and final reporting;
  • Communicate and advocate the project activities and outcomes across entities of UNESCO and among International Organizations and Member States;
  • Assist in the coordination with the Huawei team and other partners at global level in order to support the project implementation and expand the impact of the project.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION
•    Advanced university degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of Education, educational technology, social sciences or related fields.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE
•    At least one year of relevant work experience in areas related to ICT in education, preferably at national and international level. 
•    Experience in planning, preparation, and organization of workshops and meetings under the framework of education-related projects.


SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
•    Good writing skills and ability to draft clear and concise reports.
•     Ability to conduct analytical study and prepare presentations on project implementation.
•     Ability to design instruments for the monitoring and evaluation of project activities.
•     Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to maintain good working relationship with colleagues and staff at all levels within and outside the organization.
•    Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
•    Excellent knowledge of ICT and good knowledge in using social media and mobile applications.

 

LANGUAGES

•    Excellent knowledge  of English (written and spoken) and good knowledge of French. 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION
•    Specific professional training and/or practical experiences in financial administration or management.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE 
•    Experience with UNESCO and understanding of the organization, including its administrative procedures and financial process.
•    Specific professional and practical experience in ICTs for education.
•    Experience in administering and coordinating international events. 

 

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
•    Theoretical and technical knowledge in the field of ICT.
•    Some knowledge of Africa’s development and educational context.

 

LANGUAGES
•    Working knowledge of other UNESCO official languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
