OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators is a framework of thematic indicators whose purpose is to measure and monitor the progress of culture’s enabling contribution to the national and local implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and Targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The initiative is integrated into UNESCO’s Programme and Budget for 2022-2025 (41 C/5) and the work on it across the Culture Sector is led by the Deputy Director of World Heritage. The UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators provide a conceptual framework and methodological instruments for countries and cities to assess the contribution of culture to the SDGs as part of the existing implementation mechanisms of the 2030 Agenda at the national or local levels. The framework will assess both the role of culture as a sector of activity, as well as the transversal contribution of culture across different SDGs and policy areas. Evidence gathered will inform policies and decisions as well as operational actions. In the period 2021-2022, 13 countries and 16 cities are already implementing this thematic framework with more than 10 countries and cities expected to join in 2023 and 2024 in the second phase of implementation.
Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture (ADG/CLT), the general supervision of the Director of World Heritage, the general supervision of the Deputy Director, the incumbent shall assist the UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators implementation in the relevant countries and cities under the framework of the EU project titled ‘Advancing evidence-based policies and actions, and supporting policy making to enhance the contribution of creative sectors and industries to sustainable development’ (EU Phase II project) and in close cooperation with the team members for the planning and coordination of activities for the implementation of the UNESCO CultureI2030 Indicators:
Long Description
In particular, the incumbent will:
- Draft relevant documents as well as coordinate and support activities related to the development of the UNESCO Culture Data Portal in consultation with UNESCO Culture Convention colleagues and in close cooperation with the UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators team under the framework of the EU Phase II project.
- Support with coordination activities the implementation of the UNESCO CultureI2030 Indicators framework for up to 5 countries and 5 cities, ensuring follow up for correspondence, contracts, agreements, and the archiving of project assets under the framework of the EU Phase II project.
- Support the organization of project activities including the organization of Regional Workshops for data mapping in 20 countries, as well as other workshops as needed.
- Support statutory reporting related to World Heritage and Sustainable Development including the 2015 World Heritage Sustainable Development Policy, and also support as needed the development of a guides/tool for its implementation.
- Support relevant communication including news, briefings, presentations, and speeches, as well as providing inputs for related reports.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, information science, or management, urban planning, geography, or any culture related field or international relations.
Work Experience
- A minimum of one (1) year of relevant professional experience in heritage or cultural resource management at the national or the urban level.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience
- Experience in supporting conservation and management of culture and/heritage projects.
- Experience in supporting project management related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and indicators, and data collection and management
- Experience with the United Nations or a comparable international organization
- Experience drafting reports and managing data
Languages
- Knowledge of another/other official language(s) of UNESCO (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish).

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.
The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 60 874 US $.
