OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is UNESCO’s first education-related category 1 institute in the Asia and the Pacific region towards the development and promotion of new approaches to education for a more peaceful and sustainable world. The Institute is a globally regarded centre of excellence for research and implementation of socio-emotional learning (SEL) through innovative digital pedagogies empowered by Artificial Intelligence.

Under the overall authority of the Director and direct supervision of the National Information Technology Officer (NITO) of the Institute, the incumbent will serve as “Associate National Project Officer (User Experience Researcher)” The duties are targeted around enhancing the user experience for learners on FramerSpace. List of duties will include:

Long Description

(1) User Research and Persona Development

  • Conduct in-depth user research to understand the needs, preferences, and behaviours of different users (learners, moderators, facilitators) on FramerSpace.
  • Utilize various research methods such as surveys, interviews, usability testing, and analytics to gather qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Create detailed user personas representing different user profiles based on research findings.
  • Ensure that personas accurately reflect the diverse characteristics, goals, and challenges of FramerSpace users.
  • Ensure that the user experience is accessible to a diverse audience, including those with varying abilities and learning styles.
  • Advocate for inclusivity in design decisions.

 

(2) Usability Testing

  • Plan and execute usability testing sessions with learners to evaluate the effectiveness and user-friendliness of FramerSpace features.
  • Analyze testing results to identify pain points and areas for improvement in the user interface and experience.

Long Description

(3) Journey Mapping

  • Develop user journey maps to visualize the learner's experience from onboarding through various interactions with FramerSpace.
  • Identify touchpoints and opportunities for enhancing the overall user experience.

 

(4) Collaboration with FramerSpace Design and Development Team

  • Work closely with the design team to translate user insights into actionable design improvements.
  • Collaborate on prototyping and design iterations based on research findings.

 

(5) Contribute to a Continuous Feedback Loop

  • Establish mechanisms for continuous user feedback, including feedback loops, surveys, and user forums.
  • Monitor and include user feedback to inform further UX improvements.

(6) Competitor Analysis

  • Conduct benchmarking and competitor analysis to identify best practices and areas where FramerSpace can differentiate itself.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and innovations in educational technology.

 

(7) Metrics and Analytics

  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to user engagement, satisfaction, and learning experiences.
  • Use analytics to assess the impact of design changes on user behavior.

Short Description

(8) Documentation and Reporting

  • Document research methodologies, findings, and recommendations in clear and concise reports.
  • Present research findings and recommendations to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Author research papers for reputed journals and research communities in the field of educational technology and educational HCI (human computer interaction).

 

(9) Any other related task as assigned by the supervisor/ Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education Qualification:

    • Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in education, educational technology, human computer interaction, or a related discipline.

 

Work Experience

    • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in designing online and in-person learning experiences, and working with designing technology enhanced learner experiences.
    • Demonstrable experience in authoring journal papers.

Position-Related Skills and Competencies:

    • Educational Technology research design and administration
    • Qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
    • Experience with applying theories from cognitive science and learning science in designing technology enhance learning experiences.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • The ability to multi-task, deal with ambiguity, and cope with rapidly changing and pressurized circumstances
    • Excellent IT skills, in particular, research and analysis tools.

 

Languages: 

    • Very good knowledge (written and spoken) of English.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education

    • PhD in education, educational technology, user experience design, human computer interaction, or related discipline.

Work Experience

    • Driving evidence-based learning experience design.
    • Professional experience within an educational or EdTech institution/industry, and experience working in a multidisciplinary team.

 Languages

    • Working knowledge of other UNESCO Official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Russian).

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits, which may include, if applicable: 30 days annual leave, reimbursement of medical insurance (up to 5% of base salary), pension plan (up to 10% of base salary), etc. The annual base salary of NOB R1 is INR 1,751,502 (Negotiable).
