Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Education, and the Head of the UNESCO Office in Lima, and under the direct supervisor of National Associate Project Officer (NOB), the incumbent will act as the National Associate Project Officer for programme activities related to the objectives of Rural Education in Secondary Schools Programme in Peru. S/he shall support the overall planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, evaluation and documentation of the programme. Specifically, the incumbent will undertake the following tasks and responsibilities:


  • Follow up the implementation of the annual work plan of the project under the National Coordination guidelines. Ensure the school approach (pedagogical and school management) aligned with the country priorities.
  • Articulate the development of the Programme with the actions of the Lima Office with the other sectors of the Office and UNESCO offices in the world, promoting comprehensive and multisector attention in the intervention areas.
  • Identify complex situations and provide technical assistance to carry out corrective actions. 
  • Identify opportunities for the mobilization of resources that allow improving the intervention in rural secondary education.
  • Prepare briefs, papers and reports, particularly those that relate to progress and evaluation of the Rural Education in Secondary Schools in Peru. Identify opportunities to expand the project to other regions of the country and fulfil other additional activities.

  • Advanced university degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of Education, Psychology, Pedagogics, and/or Human Sciences.


Work Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in education.


Skills and competencies 

  • Basic knowledge of UNESCO’s mandate, implementation procedures, main actions and priorities, especially in the field of Education.
  • Good knowledge of the institutional, political, and operational framework concerning educational issues in Peru. 
  • Organizational, networking and partnership building skills, tact and discretion. 
  • Good IT skills.


  • Excellent knowledge of Spanish and English (oral and written).

  • Training courses in any relevant field of education will be an advantage.


Work Experience

  • Experience in programs and/or projects linked to education and/or pedagogy.
  • Experience of participation in programs / projects on pedagogical topics. 
  • Experience in coordination of educational projects. 
  • Experience in publishing articles about education will be an advantage. 
  • Relevant professional experience of working with national and local educational actors. 
  • Experience in projects/programs at fieldwork in rural areas and/or with indigenous communities, with special focus on education will be an advantage.
  • Experience in the UN system and especially with UNESCO, with regard to education projects/programs will be an advantage.


Skills and competencies 

  • Ability to conceptualize, plan and execute in a timely manner.
  • Ability to deliver required outputs and provide timely advice to colleagues, team members and management. 
  • Ability and willingness to positively cooperate / interact with a plurality of persons with different cultural backgrounds. 



  • Knowledge of other local language(s).
  • Knowledge of another UN language will be considered an asset.
