Under the overall authority of the Head of the UNESCO Dar es Salaam Office and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, and in close collaboration  with all project staff , the individual consultant will provide technical support for the following functions within the UN Joint Programme, Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Women through Education in Tanzania;


1. Ensure the communication and visibility of the Joint Programme

a. Developing  and implementing communication and visibility activities  based on the project document to raise awareness on girls and women’s education and the visibility of the programme

b. Liaising as a communication focal point for the UN Joint Programme with UNESCO HQ communication officer and project implementing partners

c. Producing project articles including press releases and stories from the field through field missions, observations, interviews in close collaboration with HQ communication officer, field assistants and implementing partners,

d. Developing promotional materials, including quality pictures, videos and flyers.

e. Managing SNS engagement

f. Collecting and analysing communication and visibility activities through media coverage.

Long Description

​​​​​​2. Contribute to overall planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting of the UN Joint Programme.

a. Drafting the progress report including donor reports by monitoring the project activities and consolidating monitored data in a results-based approach

b. Organizing and reporting multi-lateral and bilateral programme meetings and joint missions with participating UN agencies, donor, and governmental and non-governmental partners

c. Drafting the work plans and progresses of the Joint Programme 

d. Conducting resultsbased monitoring of programme components

e. Providing other technical and administrative support

Long Description

3. Contribute to the development of transparent resource mobilisation, including developing proposals and identifying potential multilateral and bilateral donors from public and private sectors to mobilize additional funding for continuing and scaling up the programme. ​​​​​​​

4. Complete additional tasks, as required and assigned by the Country Representative of UNESCO Dar es Salaam Office.

  • Advanced university degree (master level or higher) in Education / Social Sciences / Communication or related subjects.
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in similar assignment
  • Demonstrated ability of communication, storytelling, results-based reporting 
  • Knowledge of education, development and gender-related topics would be an asset
  • Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective partnerships and working relations within a multi-cultural environment
  • Experience in working with UN agencies, International Organizations, Government institutions

UNESCO’s shall only pay consultancy fees, travel costs related to the assignment and general insurance.
