OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall supervision of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe (UNESCO Regional Bureau - Venice, Italy), the regular supervision of the Head of  Sarajevo Antenna, the incumbent shall work to support the coordination and implementation of activities related to the projects of the Culture and Science programmes of Antenna Office in Sarajevo with the particular contribution of culture towards enhancement of youth in advancing the peace and reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider Region.

KEY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Within this framework, the incumbent shall assume the following responsibilities:

 

Coordination and Management

  • Support the development and manage implementation of the UNESCO peace building and youth related activities and projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and other Members states as deemed necessary, with a focus on contributing to context analysis, making recommendations to the supervisor, especially in relation to the management on the following:
    i. Strengthening the role of youth in promoting increased mutual understanding, Phase 2
    ii. Dialogue for the future, Phase 2
    iii. Enhancing citizens' trust in institutions and building resilient communities
    iv. Disaster risk reduction for sustainable development in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Ensure timely, efficient and effective management of the project and the implementation of the planned activities; in line with the approved overall documents, workplans and budget, as well as support preparation of project review/evaluation meetings, and discussions, and participation of UNESCO in UNSDCFs and One UN Programmes

Communication

  • Facilitate effective communication and ensure the visibility of the project/activity results and impact, in line with the UNESCO communications procedures and project communication and dissemination plan and the donor’s visibility Guidelines, as applicable
  • Prepare public information products such as news items, social media posts, infographics, audiovisual and other outreach materials;
  • Draft correspondence, prepare presentations, speeches, web releases, and other outreach and communication materials;
  • Speak and/or actively participate in national and international conferences, workshops or other events related to the project.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Advanced University degree (Masters, or equivalent, or higher) in cultural studies, media studies, management, international relations, communication, or in related fields of social and human sciences or,
  • University degree (BA), combined with minimum of 4 years of experience relevant to the position.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in international cultural cooperation, including experience on multi-partner project implementation and/or management.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Good knowledge of the culture sector and cultural cooperation scenarios in South-East Europe, and especially Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • Demonstrated experience in project development and management in an international environment, with strong time-management, monitoring and reporting skills;
  • Advanced IT skills in word processing, spreadsheets, visual presentation tools, vide conference platforms, etc;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing communication strategies, tools and content in relevant contexts;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with and in multicultural teams;
  • Familiarity with UNESCO’s mandate, programme (with special focus on culture) and operational processes;
  • Demonstrated capacity to produce quality written outputs such as reports, news items, etc.

LANGUAGES

  • Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken). 

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in working for or with other national and/or international development cooperation agencies;
  • Previous professional experience in UNESCO and the United Nations System or other international organization(s);
  • Experience on the implementation of complex multi-partner and multi-beneficiary projects;
  • Experience on the implementation of Joint UN and UN PBF funded projects.

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc. 

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 88 123 BAM.
