Long Description

  • Inform project owners that they have been selected and provide them with the necessary materials to integrate their projects into the website. This includes providing new project owners with Paperforms and communication toolkits to support the effective promotion and communication of their projects.
  • Identify existing citizen science projects presented on the platform to enhance their visibility and impact.
  • The consultant will collaborate with the digital communication consultant to foster community engagement through dedicated WhatsApp and LinkedIn groups
  • Participate to he development of the Encounters events, a virtual gathering designed to bring together local project leaders, scientists, and youth to share experiences and foster collaboration.

OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

In line with UNESCO’s Program and Budget for 2024-2025 (42 C/5), Major Programme II: Natural and Exact Sciences, the consultant will work under the general authority of the Assistant Director-General and under the direct supervision of the Head of the Knowledge Management and Information Unit (EO/IKM). In collaboration with the Coordinator of the UNESCO Green Citizens initiative, the consultant will focus on maintaining strong relationships with project owners and supporting the implementation of UNESCO Green Citizens and the related Science Programs. This will include assisting project owners, ensuring alignment with initiative goals, and responding to various requests related to sustainability initiatives.

 

The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Identify new projects with a focus on underrepresented regions particularly in the Arab countries, Asia, and South America, and complete the identification of scientific projects, especially those located in biosphere reserves, geoparks, and those related to oceans, glaciers, and water management.
  • Verify all identified projects with the coordinator to ensure they meet the predetermined criteria.

Long Description

  • Implement the Green Matching events bringing together project owners and students to promote volunteer opportunities, both on-site and remotely, fostering collaboration and engagement in sustainability initiatives in partnership with universities, with a focus on Africa and on South-South cooperations.
  • Manage the reception of volunteer forms and ensure follow-up on their implementation in close coordination with project owners.
  • Participate in the editorial committee for the newsletter, proposing project owners whose initiatives align with the theme selected by the editorial committee.
  • Identify the most relevant projects when requested for events, offering detailed recommendations based on the projects' alignment with the event themes, sustainability goals, and target audience.
  • The consultant will be responsible for maintaining and updating the project owner database, ensuring all information is current and accurate. The consultant will lead an annual review of projects in coordination with the initiative’s coordinator, assessing progress and aligning with the goals of the UNESCO Green Citizens initiative.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Master's degree in communication, projects management, social entrepreneurship or a related field.

 

Work Experience

  • At least 4 years of professional experience in content creation, graphic design, video production, or similar roles in a sustainability or environmental context.
  • Experience with social media platforms, creating engaging posts and multimedia content.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in content creation tools (Adobe Suite, Canva, video editing tools, etc.).
  • Experience in creating engaging multimedia content (posts, infographics, stories, videos, etc) with a focus on sustainability and environmental themes.
  • Strong visual communication skills, with passion for design and storytelling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

 

 

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English or French and very good knowledge of the other.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of sustainability, environmental science, or community-based environmental projects.
  • Previous experience working on community development, social entrepreneurship for global initiatives or NGOs.
  • Familiarity with UNESCO’s Green Citizens or similar sustainability initiatives is a plus.

 

Language

Excellent knowledge of English and French. Spanish is an asset.
