OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) was established as an integral part of UNESCO by the General Conference of UNESCO at its 29th session (November 1997). UNESCO IITE is the only UNESCO Category 1 Institute that holds a global mandate for ICT in education, under which the Institute is committed to human-centred, inclusive and equitable digital transformation of education.

 

To support successful implementation of UNESCO IITE’s activities within its Action Area 1: Digital transformation and pedagogy innovation for future education, the Institute seeks a Project Officer who will 1) lead the day-to-day implementation of the UNESCO IITE’s projects on digital transformation of higher education, on promoting creativity in education through the use of digital technologies and on promoting the improvement of soft skills through media and information literacy building, and 2) contribute to the implementation of the project on promoting ICT capacity building and open education.

Long Description

Under the overall guidance of the Director of the UNESCO IITE, direct supervision of the head of the Digital Pedagogy and Learning Materials Unit of IITE, the incumbent shall perform the functions indicated in the Terms of Reference below:

•    Provide the overall coordination of quality and consistent execution of planned activities, as well as preparation and monitoring of contractual arrangements in full accordance with the UNESCO Guidelines and Regulations.
•    Prepare the project-related documents and reports on ongoing project activities, including project reports for donors.
•    Liaise with national and international counterparts, partner organizations, institutions and relevant stakeholders, including UN agencies, National Commissions for UNESCO, and MoE of target countries, to enable the realization of the project activities.
•    Contribute to the organization of international and national educational events and meetings primarily related to innovative and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies in education, digital competencies of teachers, digital pedagogy, media and information literacy of teachers, digital transformation of education and other related fields.
•    Facilitate the coordination of training, courses and workshops organized within the DPLM Unit activities.
•    Contribute to the collection of data, review and qualitative analysis of strategic documents and production of publications on advanced educational practices, ICT competencies frameworks, digital technologies use in higher education and other related topics.
•    Provide informational support to local and international initiatives on the successful use of ICT in education and develop relevant news items, announcements, website updates and other communication materials.
•    Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor or the Director of UNESCO IITE.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
•    Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Education, Social Sciences, International Development, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), or a related field. 

 

Work experience:
•    At least two (2) years of relevant professional experience in the field of the use of digital technologies in education. 
•    Demonstrated experience in education project management working with government counterparts, international organizations, and development partners.

 

Skills/Competencies:
•    In-depth knowledge in the field of digital transformation of higher education, creativity in education, media and information literacy, ICT capacity building, digital pedagogy and open education.
•    Ability to develop innovative approaches in terms of strategic planning.
•    Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently. Proficiency in coordinating multi-stakeholder projects and partnerships.
•    Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
•    Ability to work in a collegial manner and build partnerships both within and externally to UNESCO.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively deal with colleagues, partners and networks in private and public sectors in education and teacher development.

 

Languages:
•    Fluency (written and spoken) in Russian and English is required.

•    Experience within the UN system, multilateral agencies or international corporations.
•    Experience with UNESCO internal processes and procedures.

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

This is a full-time assignment under the UNESCO Service Contract modality which follows the official working hours of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education in Moscow, Russian Federation. The initial assignment will be until 31 December 2025 with possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. Three-month probation period will be applied to a selected candidate.
Estimated monthly salary for this position is approximately 276,500 RUB. In addition, UNESCO will make a pension contribution up to a maximum of 10% and medical insurance contribution up to a maximum of 5% of remuneration as its sole contribution upon proof of enrolment in a relevant pension and/or medical insurance schemes. Service Contract holders are also entitled to paid annual leave, sick leave and other benefits.
