OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the authority of the UNESCO Director & Representative, and the direct supervision of the Administrative Officer (AO) and in coordination with the ADMIN team, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services in support of UNESCO Regional Office in Jakarta ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The incumbent shall perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Drives UNESCO staff, officials, visitors, and authorized personnel using official vehicles. Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services. Meets official personnel and visitors at the airport and, when required, facilitates basic visa and customs formalities. When necessary, translates in local language for the Director and/or official personnel using the vehicle. Drives vehicle on field trips, as required.
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper day-to-day use of the assigned vehicle and accurate day-to- day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through daily vehicle logs, timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes and water levels and car washing so that the vehicle is kept clean and in good running condition at all times. Provides inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports, etc. Arranges for the vehicle to be inspected and repaired at the officially designated workshop; checks the vehicle prior to and after the workshop visit.

Long Description

  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle; keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities. Ensures timely, accurate and correct reporting of accidents.
  • Delivers and collects mail and documents and other items as required. When not driving, may perform other duties, such as photocopying, binding, assisting with filing, paying some office bills etc.
  • Undertakes the duties of other drivers when they are on leave.

Additional tasks may be assigned by the Director and/or Supervisor provided they are consistent with the function as set out above.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Technical requirements:

  • Secondary education is required
  • Valid Indonesian driver’s license

 

Work Experience:

  • Experienced driver with at least 2 years as a professional driver in Jakarta
  • Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
  • Experience in transportation of executive personnel for various companies.
  • Experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Proof of a clean driving record may be required prior to hire (Please refer to Indonesian National Police (Polri) website)
  • Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, light passenger vehicles, sedans, heavy and light 4x4 sports utility vehicles (SUV's) is required.

  • Good knowledge of the city, local roads, and conditions where the office is located

Languages: Good knowledge of English (written and spoken English)

NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and " Knowledge of" equals a rating of "Confident" in two of the four areas.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Certification and/or training in Defensive driving and Personal safety training is an added advantage.

 

Work experience:

Work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN agency is an added advantage.

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

The approximate monthly starting salary for this post is IDR 8,260,513 (Inclusive of Social Benefits)
