OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Background

The UNESCO Dhaka Office supports the implementation of UNESCO’s programme in Bangladesh across Education, Culture, Communication & Information, and Social & Natural Sciences. To ensure effective administrative and operational support, the Office requires a qualified Driver cum Messenger to provide reliable transportation and messenger services in accordance with UNESCO rules and procedures.

Purpose of the Assignment

The Driver cum Messenger will provide safe, reliable, and efficient driving services and ensure timely delivery and collection of official documents and materials, in compliance with UNESCO administrative and security regulations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Associate National Administrative Officer, the incumbent shall perform the following duties:

Safe Driving and Vehicle Maintenance

Provide safe and punctual transportation of UNESCO staff, officials, consultants, and visitors.
Perform routine daily vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness (oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, lights, horn, clutch, etc.).
Ensure that the assigned vehicle(s) are kept clean at all times (washed regularly and free from dust and dirt).
Maintain an accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbook on a daily basis; ensure monthly/yearly scanned/electronic records are properly archived.
Monitor fuel levels and ensure the fuel tank does not fall below 25% capacity.
Arrange for regular servicing, oil changes, and minor repairs; report and coordinate major repairs with the supervisor.
Ensure vehicle documents (registration, insurance, fitness certificate, tax token, etc.) are valid at all times and inform the supervisor in advance of renewal requirements.
Ensure availability of a valid driving license at all times while on duty.
Ensure the vehicle is equipped with required safety and security equipment, including a valid First Aid kit, and complies with applicable UN Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS/SRM).
Take appropriate action in case of accidents/incidents in accordance with UNESCO rules and national regulations and report to the Office immediately.
Ensure the vehicle is properly equipped for seasonal conditions (heat, rain, etc.).
Wear official uniform while on duty, as applicable.
Remain available in case of any emergency.

Long Description

Passenger Facilitation and Protocol Support

  • Meet official personnel and visitors at airports and facilitate immigration/customs procedures, check-in/check-out, and luggage handling as required.
  • Provide assistance with hotel transfers and other official movements.
  • Demonstrate courtesy, professionalism, and respect toward passengers and road users at all times.

C. Messenger and Logistical Support Services

  • Deliver and collect official mail, documents, parcels, and other items to/from government offices, UN agencies, partners, and service providers.
  • Assist with basic administrative and logistical tasks as required by the Office.
  • Support office operations during events, meetings, and workshops when requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education 

  • HSC (or equivalent)  
  • Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience (Driving and Messengerial tasks)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and competencies 

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good proficiency in Bangla typing, the use of MS Office and other tools (Word, Excel, Outlook,  etc.)
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedules, priorities, and capacity to multitask and work effectively under pressure. 

Languages 

  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Bangla is essential.

Benefits: The Salary Grade will SC2-1 per month
